I was working on a Side Scrolling Platformer called “
Ralphie’s World
” which I thought 2.5D audio would be really neat so I whipped together this prototype and built 2.5D Audio support into the Great White North Engine.
What is 2.5D sound? This technique is the same as 3D sound except you only have 2 dimensions.
Unfortunately due to my lack of artistic ability Ralphie’s World never made it past a prototype for how to build a side scrolling platformer game, that being said “
Snake Rawr Rawr
” does use this technique for its sound effects.

The ear is attached to the mouse, so move the mouse around. As the ear moves closer to the sound emitters (one clicking and one playing a song looped) the sound gets louder. There will be no sound until the ear enters the circles around the emitters as this is their emission radius.
